Better Late Than Never... The 2018 PIAA State Basketball Championships --Joe Costa

HERSHEY P.A. The 2018 PIAA State Basketball Championships finally took place March 26-28, due to two consecutive early-spring snow storms, games finally got underway four days after they were supposed to. 

The four-day break that each of the 12 schools representing their respective classifications received because of the storm, showed up as a mixed bag of rust, jitters, and steadiness from the various teams and players.

The following are brief recaps of the six classification's Championship games.

State Championships -- Joe Costa

CHARLESTON W.V. The 49th WVSSAC Girl's State Basketball Tournament was played this past week in Charleston. 24 Teams from all over West Virginia survived regional play and headed to the Charleston Civic Center to face off in three classifications for the chance to be crowned West Virginia State Champs!

2018 crowned three new champions after the annual four-day event, some expected (a 1 and a 2 seed), some not (a 4 seed).

The following are brief re-caps of each of the State Championship games.

Friday usually provides us with a multitude of fireworks and last-second game-winning shots, but this year the big-dogs were pretty much in control of the action... Saturday and their destiny await.

The 49th WVSSAC Girl's State Basketball Tournament is underway! 

CHARLESTON W.V. The 49th WVSSAC Girl's State Basketball Tournament was played this past week in Charleston. 24 Teams from all over West Virginia survived regional play and headed to the Charleston Civic Center to face off in three classifications for the chance to be crowned West Virginia State Champs!

Wednesday and Thursday are the Quarter-Final rounds of the four-day event, traditionally these two days set the pace for the rest of the tournament, and tend to separate the contenders from the upstarts.
